Walking on Wyre moves into the foothills of the scenic Trough of Bowland for our final creative writing workshop.

Our final workshop takes place on Saturday 7th June  from 12:30 to 4pm at The Barn, Scorton and we have a garden pavillion for the afternoon.  There is a lovely cafe with gazebos so why not get there early and enjoy a bite to eat before we begin.

The picturesque village of Scorton is our final destination on what has been an incredible journey of discovery along the Wyre Way. Talented tutors have drawn out tremendous creativity in all the participants and the poetry and prose produced is beginning to arrive in our email box.  A big thank you to all the participants for your relentless enthusiasm, your anecdotes and sheer joy of the countryside that you have brought to the project.  I am truly inspired by you all and am certain that our forthcoming publication willl become a real treasure among the works written about Wyre.

The Barn at Scorton
Scorton is where the two River Wyre strands, Tarnbrook and Marshaw now merged, gather pace and journey to the sea. This wonderful community work together every Year to host the Bikes and Barrows Festival, quite a spectacle with great country events, including sheep racing!  We are looking forward to a short walk along their own footpath The Millennium Way, built to help walkers negotiate the narrow country lanes as they enjoy the river bank.

Our tutor this week is Steve Rowland, a former teacher and talented poet who has worked internationally for Kodak. Some of the photographs on the right were also taken by Steve and I assure you that the sky at Fleetwood yesterday really was that wonderful turquoise hue. No tricks.

Steve recently became a Lancashire Dead Good Poet and has been a tremendous help with keeping the project rolling along.  His poetry is moving, steeped in mythology and vivid imagery.  I hope that you will join Steve for what promises to be a very exciting conclusion to the creative writing section of our Walking on Wyre journey towards a unique publication.  Dress for the weather with strong footwear please.  If you can't do the walk - don't worry - there will be research materials in the pavilion or you can stay in the village and simply enjoy the wonderful views. We will share our walking experience with you during the workshop.
